Our U18 Glanville Cup team of Billy B, Charlie S, Henry W and Xaviere A had done marvellously to reach today’s regional final again Millfield. However, we knew that we would be in for a tough afternoon of tennis given Millfield’s team of academy players all with high WTN rankings. We went into the matches with a determination to challenge Millfield with high level of consistent play, utilizing the artificial clay court surface to play wrong footers, drop shots and spin variations. To this end, our players got their teeth into some gritty play with some closely fought matches. Billy B only narrowly lost his first singles set 5-7 before losing the second set 6-1, and Henry W fought back from one set down to take the second 6-4 before losing the tie-break decider. The afternoon didn’t go our way, but we were content that Millfield had to win the afternoon with a fight.
