Match Report
Sherborne School Boys 2nd XI vs  Canford School
On: Thursday, 22 May 2025
Venue: Away

Despite the disappointment of not being on the first team pitch, instead on the pitches nearer Bournemouth than Canford, the second team came away with another fine victory to secure their place in the DISC finals this year.

On a sunny afternoon, captain Max N won the toss and inserted the hosts who were soon a wicket down, Arthur D trapping the hard hitting opener plum in front with his left arm spin. A 47 run partnership for the second wicket looked like taking the game away from Sherborne but the boys managed to becalm the powerful number three and managed to restrict his scoring opportunities. The seam bowlers, Will W, Freddie B and Harry S were unlucky to not claim any wickets and it was the introduction of Charlie R and his offies that broke the Canford run scoring, claiming 2-23 and then Max N, bowling with real fire, claiming 2-18. Oz P picked up a useful wicket too as Sherborne restricted the hosts to 129 off their 100 ball allocation.

Starting against a useful attack, Felix G and Arthur D put on 23 for the first wicket. Unfortunately, it was a quiet day for the middle order, except for Max N who took the game by the scruff of the neck to produce a typically powerful match winning innings. The Canford fielding gave Max a life, a relatively straightforward chance being grassed at deep mid wicket, as well as a few boundaries gifted by miss fields too. However, Max was at his destructive best, blasting 59 off just 36 deliveries with 4 6s and 5 4s, at a strike rate of 163. He was supported very calmly by Charlie R who capped his fine debut with good running between the wickets and level headed batting.

This was an excellent win against a very decent Canford team and the boys continue their excellent run of form.
