Monmouth 3rds 1 Colts A 4

After a slow start the Colts A soon got into their groove with some slick interplay. Timmy Y gave their defence a torrid time and was unlucky not to open the scoring with a couple of efforts. The Sherborne pressure finally told and it was gratifying to see it come from a corner routine in which the 'love train' create enough chaos to allow Milo D to plant a powerful downward header into the net to give the visitors a well deserved lead. The midfield were weaving pretty patterns and Willoughby P, Harry B and Harry L were presenting plenty of problems for the Monmouth defence. Captain Fergus OC and Milo D pulled the strings in midfield and were spraying the ball around to great effect. Sherborne got the second goal their dominance deserved with Harry B applying the finishing touch. Kyryl M, and Ned T were solid at full back and Max T and Alf M's athleticism and physicality ensured the home team didn't get too much encouragement. Joe E in goal was a commanding presence and is very much the modern goalkeeper - comfortable with the ball at his feet. William V showed neat footwork to create further opportunities. Willoughby P scored two identical free kicks either side of a Monmouth consolation and in truth the away side could easily have doubled the goals they scored even against a physically strong opponent. This was an encouraging first game.
