This was certainly a baptism by fire, Warminster fielding their 1st XI, a Sixth Form team featuring some able 5th Formers. Having played last term, Warminster was an experienced and skilful side, and physically bigger. Warminster scored first, but we immediately equalised, Seb Q pouncing on a rare defensive error. Steady rotations of the bench allowed us to try different ways to counter, but we were unable to match the quality particularly of their midfield. Joe Z played an outstanding game in goal, and was deservedly the MoM, despite the score, tirelessly and fearlessly blocking many a barrage of shots, but the entire defence battled hard, with no let-up, Alex S and Charlie F-S proving a confident pairing in the centre. A humbling defeat perhaps, but moments of skill from Jacobi B and Eric R, penetrating runs from Charlie F-A on the wing, and seventy minutes of tireless energy from all fifteen players highlighted that we are a team with real potential and we learned some important lessons.
