Mini Colts A 27 Bryanston 5

Tries: Ianto D 2, Will R, Rory RT, Henry W. Conversion: Beau B

This was a very solid cup win against a game but lightweight Bryanston team. It revealed a real improvement in rugby intelligence, playing sensibly in the conditions on a huge, soggy Bryanston first team pitch. After a good warm up we tore into Bryanston from the outset and after a series of powerful carries Ianto D stormed over for two carbon copy tries after line-out drives. Will R added a third from another short-range carry and we were already looking out of sight. Had we not dropped the ball a few times we would have been far more points ahead at half time. To their credit Bryanston tackled well and spoiled our possession effectively.

A first try of the season for Rory RT, showing good strength on the ball, made the game safe. It was a little disappointing that our defence, which had been solid for most of the day took a collective time out and allowed the elusive Bryanston centre to evade a host of non-tackles to score their only points. Our response was a terrific team try where the ball passed through multiple pairs of hands creating a sequence of two on ones that ended with Henry W dotting down in the corner. By this stage all our 21 players had got some good time on the field and the final blast of what had been a veritable dawn chorus of whistling came to an end with us proceeding to the next round of the National Cup to play Claire’s Court from Berkshire.
