Match Report
Sherborne School 4th XI vs  Wellington School
On: Thursday, 27 Mar 2025
Venue: Away

After the disappointment of our previous two matches it was pleasing to close the season with a resounding victory.

Wellington's 3rd X1 appeared something of a scratch outfit but, once again, we conceded an early goal due to miscommunication between keeper and defender. However, on this occasion Wellington's joy proved short-lived. Within five minutes our Mr Reliable, Al P, had brought us level, then Eddie's S-R's well timed header direct from a corner put us ahead. This proved to be the catalyst for a Haaland-like 20 minute hat-trick from Eddie - his second coming from a penalty after he had been bundled over in the box, before a crisp finish made it three for him and four for us. Wellington were not offering much opposition, but Amory H-J gave himself a story to tell for the next 50 years when he lobbed the keeper from just outside the area, and Reuben H added to his show reel when he tapped in from a yard out.

6-1 at half time meant the game was already won, but Wellington were stronger in the second half and created chances, assisted by some substitutions from players in higher teams. To their credit, this galvanised Sherborne to play even better. Our defence snuffed out their attacking opportunities, we kept a better shape and continued to create our own opportunities. Leo M and Ned C headed further goals before a final own goal made it 9-1 at the whistle.

Credit must go to the whole squad for a most enjoyable and largely successful season.

Golden Boot - Eddie S-R (10 goals). Player of the Season - Al P (special commendations to Satch M and Leo M). Most Improved Player - Freddy H.
