We ended up playing the Millfield 3rd team and after a promising start, it was clear that a heavy pitch and big and athletic team would mean this was a tight match. Willoughby P flashed a couple of efforts from distance just wide. Both teams struggled to retain possession on the heavy pitch. 0-0 at half time was fair reflection and a similar pattern became apparent in the half. Millfield started to get in the ascendancy although we held our own. The first goal was going to be crucial and unfortunately we conceded a penalty which was converted and then as we chased the game we conceded sloppy goals in quick succession. It was a game where the players worked and battled hard but unfortunately things just didn't come off for us. Milo D was a steady presence throughout as was Ned T at left back. Ferg OC and Mortimer M worked hard and Timmy Y was tireless in his harrying of defenders. Max T was excellent throughout and MOTM. The challenge for us as an U16 team is competing with physicality of older players. We're still a good team and will learn from this performance against a strong opponent.
