On a fine wintry afternoon, the U15C team began their season in exciting style. Captained by Bertie W and with a strong central defensive pairing of Edward G and Alfie A, complementing solid play from Robin C and Wilf H, they were put under a lot of early pressure from a disciplined and skillful QEH side. It didn't take the visitors long to cut through the defence and take the lead, but they then could not build on that. Several chances came and went, most critically a penalty conceded ten minutes from time. This proved a pivotal moment, as George E produced a fine save, leaping high to his left. Honouring a promise made earlier, George E was then moved into midfield with the gallant Angus L taking his place in goal and, when the final seconds arrived and the visitors had still not taken advantage of their greater strength, George E fired home a low, twenty-five-yard volley, with the team's first shot of the match, to clutch an unexpected draw from the jaws of opening-day defeat.
