Sherborne vs Millfield – Sherborne won 5-4

After some excellent pre-match training and a highly competitive afternoon of competition play that was used as a means to select our team for the first match, we found ourselves fielding one of the youngest teams to date with one Third Form boy, Henry W, and two Fourth Form boys, Rupert D and Xavier A. Henry partnered our seasoned captain Billy B and found immediate form, winning their three one set matches while only dropping 2 games. Our other pairs of Charlie S and Rupert playing second pair and Will P and Xavier playing third pair found the sets much closer affairs with a very capable Millfield team taking charge with a strong serve and return game. However, we just did enough to take the 5-4 win with Charlie and Rupert beating their third pair 6-0 and Will and Xavier beating their second pair 6-4. Heading into the final round of matches 4-2 up perhaps gave us a false sense of security and a lesson it so be learned here, to keep the fight strong right up to the very final point of the afternoon.
