Mini Colts A 29 Radley 43
Tries: Will R 2, Hugo DM, Max L, Felix T Conversions: Beau B 2
This was a rip-roaring game involving impressive running and handling from both sides, some sloppy tackling (hence the score) and some terrible errors (mainly from us). Radley opened the scoring with a burst through the middle but we came storming back into things with tries from Hugo and Will, having created space with good handling. Two quick passes then sent Max L into space and he put on the afterburners in a show of acceleration more akin to a Porsche than the tractor we felt he was, sidestepping their full back to complete a remarkable score from half way. Radley then scored again to make the half time score 17-19.
Playing with the wind we felt we had a really good chance in the second half and a try from an arcing run by Felix converted by Beau gave us a lead again. That was as good as it got. Our kick off returns resembled Superman faced with Kryptonite. Radley worked their way back into our half and scored a good unconverted try in the corner. Then ‘It’s a Knockout’ took over: we knocked on a series of kicks and then picked the ball up offside showing a cavalier disregard for the laws. Radley scored twice in three minutes and despite another try from Will, they finished the game with another to put them two scores ahead. There was little to separate the teams in terms of talent. We, however, managed the game far less well than them, despite showing huge commitment.
