Match Report
Sherborne School 4th XV vs  Radley College
On: Saturday, 30 Nov 2024
Venue: at Home

The flattering final scoreline does not do Sherborne justice. Radley deserved their win but the Gents played very well, contributing to a fine game.

Unfortunately we were still asleep at kick-off and Radley capitalised - 7-0 up after just two minutes. Thereafter Sherborne had the lion's share of possession and territory in the first half, but Radley's defence was secure and strong. One dropped pass followed by a hack through was the closest we got to scoring, but the pick-up five metres from their try line was knocked on.

Radley turned the screw in the second half, punching tightly around ruck and maul to make steady territorial gains, and slowly sucking the life out of Sherborne who had to tackle relentlessly. A second try mid-way through the half extended the Radley lead, but the Gents continued to battle on. It was only the third try 7 mins from time that finally killed off hopes of a recovery. Credit to Radley - they were an impressive outfit for a 4th XV team, but we gave them a hard game, every player gave their all, and one can not ask for more.
