Mini Colts A 38 Taunton School 5
Tries Will R 3, Henry W 2, Felix T. Conversions: Beau B 3, Hector R
This was a convincing win against a committed Taunton who competed well at the breakdown but did not have our depth of quality. The first half was a battle of the number 8s with Will R scoring a hat trick within 20 minutes. The first was a solo effort, the second was as a result of good work from Rory RT and the third was an excellent try started by Ethan L with a great run and involving a team’s worth of hands. Their number 8 was then unstoppable from close range to make the half time score 19-5. We then pulled away in the second half, thanks to two super tries from Henry W, one with Beau B finding a gap to put Henry through and the other the try of the match, with Rory auditioning for a spot in the back line with an outrageous dummy and off load. Felix T who also had a strong game scored the other try again after good hands. There were a few occasions when the forwards saw a brick wall and tried to run into it (without much luck…). Our defence in the second half was equally brick wall like so the pitch resembled a Barratt development site.
It was good that the team listened well to our advice about spreading across the field, demonstrated some pleasing tackling, with Archie T and Freddie P like foxes in a hen house, and we began to show some real continuity between forwards and backs. Next week is busy with Canford in the cup and a Saturday Sussex struggle at Seaford.
