Finding themselves three down within the first fifteen minutes was quite a baptism for the Mini Colts, in their first match at Sherborne. It was much to their credit that they gradually found their feet and made it to half time without conceding any further goals. As players starting to close down the opposition down more effectively in the second half, the game began to open up for Sherborne. Whilst Freddie B ensured Bristol Grammar had little time in the circle, James H was instrumental in converting defence into attack and Ollie B made some probing passes that opened up space behind the opposition’s back line. Eventually, Sherborne got their reward with Jake F finding himself in the right place to pop the ball home from close range. With the game now fairly even, Sherborne looked for a second, only for Bristol Grammar to extend their lead. With two minutes to go, Sherborne were lucky not to concede a penalty stroke as yet another critical intervention from Charlie W made contact with man, rather than ball. The final whistle arrived with the score at 1-4 and the team already looking like a different outfit to the one that started the game.
