On a frustrating night for the 1st XI, they succumbed 1-0 to Marlborough in the first round of the National Cup. Despite starting brightly and having the best of the early exchanges, Sherborne couldn’t convert their attacking possession into genuine chances or penalty corners, and Marlborough grew into the match. The score remained 0-0 at half time, as Sherborne defended a last minute penalty corner to keep a zero on the board. In the second half, Sherborne failed to build any kind of momentum or possession, creating a number of breakaway chances but also turning over possession cheaply. Marlborough eventually broke through to take the lead in the game, and held it until the finish despite Sherborne having a chance to equalise from a penalty corner on the final play of the game.
