The 2nd XV competed in their first full match of the season on Tuesday afternoon, at home to Bishops Wordsworth’s School. The training fixture against Cranleigh School at the weekend had certainly helped iron out many early season issues and this showed from the start. Sherborne managed to regather their own kick off and from this point in the first half were pretty dominant.
Bishops struggled to get out of their own half due to an excellent defence – and when they did Sherborne were able to pin them back once again. The home team managed to score two well worked tries from Johnnie LJ and Cassius H, one converted by Oli G. Sherborne had chances to score on a few more occasions in the first half, crossing the whitewash twice but being called back for infringements. In the second half Bishops came out firing, pinning Sherborne back and scoring a powerful try from weight of possession. Taking the score to 12-7 the match suddenly was very tight. Sherborne refocused and applied a lot of pressure to the Bishops team, which ultimately cracked. Tries from Tom AH, Oli G, Johnnie LJ and Max D killed off any resistance with the final score being 40-7.
An excellent performance from all the boys. A huge number of positives, especially around the defensive effort and the continuity in attacking play.
