U14 B v Millfield
Lost by 30-0
After a tough first match against Radley, where tackling and structure were lacking, it was time for another tough test v Millfield, who were another large and physical side.
The games got off to a bad start, when a handling error 5m from our try lines gifted Millfield the first try of the match after a matter of minutes. It wasn’t long until a number of missed tackles led to the oppositions second and third trys. With the sole focus working together and supporting each other, progress was made later in the half, with the Sherborne boys starting to hold possession for longer periods of time. However, after lots of good work, one missed tackle led to another try. It was not all doom and gloom. I want to highlight Ned S and Solomon M who both tackled relentlessly. If their tenacity can spread throughout the side quick progress could be made.
The half time whistle blew with a very one sided score line that was close to the RFU’s protocol to end the game. With the boys experience of the game in mind, it was decided that we would mix the teams in the second half and play a new game. Millborne v Sherfield if you like. The second half was a great success, with quite brilliant collaboration between the boys from both schools. It was a 15-10 thriller where the Sherborne boys seemed to grow in confidence. Hopefully a great learning opportunity ceased.
