Match Report – Marlborough 9 Sherborne 4

In glorious autumnal weather on the sloping terraces at Marlborough, the Mini Colts D turned in their best performance so far this season, playing with endeavour and beginning to put into practice routines rehearsed in training. Far from capitulating, they gave Marlborough a decent game, twice taking the lead in an even first half which finished two tries apiece. Although the hosts drew away later on, a never-say-die attitude was rewarded when Hugo S crossed late on for his second try, illustrating a fine personal performance. The first try had been scored in scintillating fashion, when Daniel G galloped away down the left, leaving a trail of would-be tacklers wallowing in his wake, whilst captain Charlie S zigzagged over from a scrum in the second half. Both Dylan C and James H were immense in their tackles, whilst both Hector S and George S produced brave defensive displays, sharing the full-back position effectively. William P was tenacious and Anker Z ever-present whenever the side applied pressure to the opposition. It is wonderful to report a match in which this team competed well and held their own.
