Match Report
Sherborne School Mini Colts C vs  Monmouth School for Boys
On: Saturday, 18 Jan 2020
Venue: Away

With a much changed team from the Thursday side due to availability, the MCCs travelled to Monmouth. The weather was bright and sunny and the pitch soft, due to the proximity of the river Wye.

It was clear from the start that the teams were well matched and so a very competitive match ensued with both sides creating chances and both goalkeepers getting their knees dirty.

At half- time it was one apiece, with Sherborne’s goal scored by Peter Henderson after some sustained pressure. The second half saw both teams continue in the same vein with Monmouth managing to edge ahead with a score after fifteen minutes. Both teams then gradually upped their efforts with Sherborne creating chances, searching for the equaliser and Monmouth repelling the attacks and threatening the Sherborne goal themselves on occasions. The last five minutes were thrilling with the Monmouth ‘keeper producing the save of the match at the base of the post to deny Freddie May.

Sherborne’s work rate and determination was again excellent and although the game was lost, the boys came off the pitch having enjoyed themselves and knowing that they had given it their best efforts.
