Match Report
Sherborne School Boys-U14A vs  Canford School
On: Thursday, 05 Dec 2019
Venue: Away

The Mini Colts A team travelled to Chippenham RFC to play their Dorset and Wiltshire County Cup Final against Canford School. Playing on the brand new 4G turf was a new experience for many of the boys. This pitch would allow for running rugby, however the weather conditions made this difficult. With the wind at their backs in the first half Sherborne managed to get out to a 7-0 advance through an opportunistic, “never give” try from Alfie Reynolds. Kicking through he chased his own kick well, and when the fullback made a mistake he was able to capitalise. Olly Goringe added the extras. Canford then came back into the match strongly. Using their powerful runners they made some big holes in the defensive line. Some excellent last ditch tackles and some errors from Canford ensured they didn’t score. Sherborne on the other hand put pressure on the Canford line, with Tom Alers-Hankey diving over for the score. This was on the stroke of half time and ensured Sherborne went to the break 12-0 up. Playing into the wind during the second half Sherborne were under a lot of pressure. Some fantastic organised and committed defence allowed just one try to be conceded. Into the last 5 minutes Sherborne showed great maturity to run the clock down and come away champions with a 12-5 win. A brilliant way to finish the term. There have been a huge number of positives over the course of the term, not least the boys attitude and application when under pressure. Well done to all boys involved.
