Our first fixture of the Lent term introduced several new players, with Jay Chan, Douglas Groves, Yasha Malikov and Ollie Haskins all representing the School at water polo for the first time. Dauntsey’s took an early 1-0 lead despite valiant attempts from Freddie Banks and Douglas Groves, and superb defence of the deep end goal by Theo Jarratt. After another goal from the opposition in the second quarter, Sherborne upped their game, with George Xiao assisting Henry Le Cornu’s first goal. There were some outstanding tackles and passes from Will Frost and Zac Banks, as well as excellent saves from Johnnie Lawson- Johnston in the shallow end. Henry Le Cornu went on to score the equalizer, with two goals from Daniel Hixson bringing the half time score to 4-2 to Sherborne. Dauntsey’s dominated in the third quarter, with Theo Jarratt earning his keep in goal. He deflected numerous attempts in quick succession, before Dauntsey’s finally managed to get a couple of balls into the net. A goal from Daniel Hixson enabled Sherborne to take the lead again. With both teams tiring, Sherborne consolidated their lead in the final quarter. There were two further goals from Daniel Hixson and one more from Henry Le Cornu. Meanwhile, Johnnie Lawson-Johnston defended the shallow end goal tenaciously, with only one shot getting past him. Johnny Kirkwood scored Sherborne’s final goal, ending the match with a 9-5 win.
