Match Report
Sherborne School Boys-U18A vs  LTA Bridgewater
On: Saturday, 05 Oct 2019
Venue: Away

Four Sherborne tennis players set off to further their singles tournament experience at the Bridgwater Festival. The boys faced the challenge of the medium quick astro surface at Huntsworth and good opponents. There was some improved play and emotional control in first round. Cosmo Henderson took the first set 4-2 against Daniel Beavis, but the number 2 seed turned the match around to win 4-0 [10-0] in the next two sets. Euan Jardine opened up with some very promising play to again take the first set 4-2 versus Conor Evans. Unfortunately, some sudden severe back pain forced Euan to retire in the second set at 1 game all. Nick Morris was stretched by the number one seed the left handed Joshua Sillick. The Sherborne player was more sound on his volley but was knocked out 4-0 4-2. Sam Vincent was beaten 4-0 4-0 by Christopher Halse in round one. With all the Sherborne boys in the consolation, the 5th place was once again up for grabs. Euan was able to return to court losing to Cosmo, while Nick beat Sam. Cosmo again finished highest placed in 5th with more precision than Nick could resist with a straight sets win. Both players served and rallied consistently, but must be prepared to go bigger on serve and forehands, against stronger opponents. Sam defeated Euan in the only match on the grey clay. There were signs of progress and the ability to compete with the seeds at this event, which were good to see.
