Match Report
Sherborne School Junior Colts A vs  Queen Elizabeth's Hospital (QEH)
On: Saturday, 11 Jan 2020
Venue: Away

The Junior Colts started this match brightly with some good link up play in midfield and down the right. This resulted in Barney Crawford seeing an early shot well saved. Sherborne looked dangerous on the counter with the pace of Hugo Marriage up front posing a threat. A strong run from him resulted with the ball breaking to Freddie Springett who slotted the ball into the goal. Sherborne continued to dominate the game, and slightly against the run of play, QEH scored an equaliser from the edge of the box after a free kick was only half cleared. This did not deter the JCA team though, and they struck back with an excellent team goal shortly before half time. A quick transition into attack saw Marriage running aggressively at the defence down the right wing, and with the calmness to pick out a great run from Seb Stannah it was 1-2 at half time. QEH pushed hard in the second half for an equaliser, and Sherborne sat back a little too much at times, inviting pressure onto them. However, thanks to some fine stops by Jaego Cable from some long range efforts, Sherborne weathered the storm. Credit must go to Cam Golding who showed real grit and awareness to help keep QEH at bay on a number of occasions. Once this period of pressure passed, Sherborne once again began knocking on the door, and Hugo Marriage capped off a fine display with a goal from inside the penalty box after a scrambled clearance from a set piece. There were further opportunities to increase the lead, but the woodwork and the QEH keeper stood in the way. It was a pleasing first outing of the season for the JCA team in windy conditions, but a fine team display with some intelligent and direct football gave a deserved 1-3 win.
