Match Report
Sherborne School 2nd XI vs  Queen Elizabeth's Hospital (QEH)
On: Saturday, 11 Jan 2020
Venue: at Home

A very solid start to the season gave the Sherborne side what looks on paper to have been a comfortable victory. The reality was that this was a very tight, even contest which was one by moments of excellence from the Sherborne side: Hugh Ridgway’s run and cross for Raef O’Brien to give Sherborne the lead at a crucial time just before half time; Matthew Allen’s wonderful save low to his right at the start of the first half which maintained the lead; Raef O’Brien’s classy and powerful left-footed finish across the goalie and in off the base of the far post; and Henry Marriage’s calm and assuring presence at the back.

Ultimately Raef could have a hat-trick (or more) as Sherborne spurned a number of chances with QEH pushing to get back in the game but Charlie Culver did get the ball in the back of the net to provide the extra cushion of a three goal lead and ensure that the last ten minutes were fairly relaxing ones.
It was not vintage stuff in difficult weather conditions but it was a very effective and determined performance from a team that has already shown it has great potential for the weeks ahead.

Man of the match: Henry Marriage
