Match Report
Sherborne School Boys-U14A vs  Bristol Grammar School
On: Saturday, 18 Jan 2020
Venue: Away

Another tough encounter for the Mini Colts A against a side containing some strong running midfield players. Preparations were not aided by a late arrival, resulting in no warm up time. A formation of 442 did, at least, give the team a more defensive structure and managed to limit the damage early on. Gradually, the opposition opened up a three goal lead only to gift Alfie S the ball from a sixteen, who made no mistake in punishing the error. This gave the team some momentum going into half time and the mood remained entirely positive, typified by the constant hard work of Will N in midfield, winning him the award of Man of the Match. Bristol Grammar continued to dominate with possession being too easily relinquished by Sherborne after being hard won. After going a further goal behind, a fast break down the right by Alfie S and a well timed pass to Alfie R, who finished neatly, meant that at least Sherborne concluded the scoring. Greater precision with passing, from sixteens and the creation of more options remain areas for improvement. Similarly, a greater awareness of space needs to be developed, as well as improved first touch to allow exploitation of that space and give more time on the ball. Hopefully, some improvements in these areas can be made during Monday’s session, in preparation for Thursday’s fixture against Clayesmore.

Goals: Alfie S, Alfie R

Man of the Match: Will N
