Colts A v Canford

17-15 win

Tries- George Ingrams, Arthur Green, Freddie Cole

Conversions- Tom Rotheroe

Canford had been enjoying a good season and there were definite nerves in the Sherborne camp during the days leading up to the game. These were proved to be justified as Canford started strongly, doninating territory and possession in the early stages and crashing over twice for a 12-0 lead. Sherborne by looking to play out of their own 22 found themselves under increasing pressure.

However, with a bit of ball and territory won with the combined boots of Tom Rotheroe and Arthur Green Sherborne earned a lineout close to the Canford line. The pack launcehed an assualt on the try line and it was George Ingrams who forced his way over to score and give the team hope.

As the second half started and the conditions worsened it was Canford who were first onto the scoreboard with a well struck penalty, as their back three fielded Sherborne's kicks and returned them with interest. Perhaps this was one that was going to get away after all, though this was clearly not a thought that entered the players minds. Tom Rotheroe found space and the touchline with his kicks while the rest of the team seemed to relish chasing down their opposite numbers and with fifteen minutes or so to go the momentum was all with Sherborne. All pretense of playing an expansive game had gone out of the window and Arthur Green barged over from close range, converted by Tom Rotheroe. Juts three points in it.

The final minutes saw Sherborne camped deep in the Canford half but their defence held out and held out. Time was up on the clock when a Sherborne line out lead to a last chance on the Canford line and after a series of brusing runs Freddie Cole, ably supported by his pack of forwards and an excited touchline, touched down to seal a fantastic comeback.
