Match Report
Sherborne School Boys-U14A vs  King's College, Taunton
On: Saturday, 11 Jan 2020
Venue: at Home

A tough start to the Mini Colt A’s hockey careers at Sherborne, as they came up against a good King’s Taunton side. The first ten minutes looked a pretty even contest until the opposition’s quality centre half managed to dribble from his own half around most of the team before finishing confidently. King’s Taunton continued to score regularly throughout the remainder of the match. Sherborne rarely managed to find any time on the ball, hence didn’t manage to settle into any rhythm. As the game progressed, the lack of time resulted in fewer passes being executed precisely and players feeling isolated in possession. Despite the rising scoreline, every player remained positive and totally committed. Max D made a number of telling impressions on the game, including a goal line clearance, which helped earn him the award of Man of the Match. Alfie S should also get a mention for his pace down the right hand channel getting him to the bye line a few times. With the last play of the game, Alfie R finally found some space in the circle to challenge the goalkeeper and, although he was unable to convert, Barney T-B was on hand to fire home the rebound. A focus on more mobile defending on Monday and some work on stringing more passes together on Thursday lies ahead, as the team prepare for next week’s game against Bristol Grammar.

Scorer: Barney T-W

Man of the Match: Max D
