Match Report
Sherborne School Boys-U16A vs  Millfield School
On: Saturday, 12 Oct 2019
Venue: at Home

Although the scoreline might not suggest it this was a ferocious contest. Millfield started best, getting their powerful ball carriers into the game early, but Sherborne, playing into the wind and rain, defended with incredible tenacity. With just a couple of minutes left of the first half the score was 10-5, and although Millfield had had the upper hand, Sherborne deserved to be in the game and had put together some excellent attacking phases, with Arthur Green, Oli Carr Smith and Will Parry leading the charge.

A Millfield try on the stroke of half-time following a rare missed tackle in midfield meant a score of 17-5 at the break, but Sherborne were still buoyant going into the second half.

Sadly, a string of injuries put the team in blue on the back foot and as the ever impressive Millfield looked to turn the screw it was a case of survival rather than a miracle comeback. However, to concede just a. Single score on the second half under such relentless pressure showed real character and the defensive effort was immense; embodied by the tireless work rate of Fergus Macdonald and the rest of the back row.

In the end, Millfield were never in danger of losing but they certainly had to work hard for their win, much to Sherborne’s credit.

Man of the Match- Fergus Macdonald
