Sherborne 19 - 22 Abingdon 05/10/19

The Colts B’s started strongly against a large Abingdon side, drawing first blood with some flowing handling allowing Hugo Blanchard to score in the corner. The conversion was well slotted by William Jonas. Unfortunately it was Abingdon who managed to get the next score after a poor Sherborne set piece allowed them to cross in the corner. There was a strong period of play from Sherborne follwoing this resulting in some neat hands shifted the ball out to Captain Toby Foulger who used the classic 'Foulger show and go' to cut back inside and bring the scoreline to 12-5, before a very nice kick from out wide by William Jonas extended the Sherborne lead. The gloss was taken off Sherborne's very good first half display with the final play where some poor tackling saw Abingdon bring the score back to 14-12.

Sherborne began the second half half brightly. An illegal crunching hit on a fasting moving George Perkins had those on the sidelines looking nervous but fortunately both parties didn't come off too badly in the end. From the resulting penalty, Sherborne opted to kick for the corner and some more good hands in the backs allowed Harry Whigham to score in the opposite corner.

The final 20 minutes were a frustrating affair from a Sherborne viewpoint. A multitude of penalties were conceded as the tiring Sherborne boys continued to be pinned for offside infringements. The pressure eventually told with Abingdon scoring twice in the last 10 minutes to snatch a 22-19 victory.

Overall, it was a fantastic spirited performance from the boys with plenty of positives to take.
