Man of the Match- Arthur Green

A second run out on The Upper brought another outstanding performance from Sherborne’s Colts A XV. Attacking early from deep in their half, crisp handling and pace of foot led to Will Parry touching down in the opening minutes. Although Abingdon rallied and Sherborne’s defence was tested by some tough ball carrying, it was the team in blue who were knocking players backwards and forcing errors from their opponents. A second try came from a kick-pass, this time to the left wing and Will Parry converted again, before scores were added by Oli Carr Smith and Ollie Charles, who broke the line with real pace.

Aside from the interception try that gifted Abingdon a score under the posts perhaps the only other thing to go wrong (penalty count aside) was the injury to Oliver Senior whose bravery in attempting to gather a kick through exceeded his body’s ability to withstand the collision. We wish him a speedy recovery.

Having scored tires with width and one from a kick it was only fitting to score one from close range and it was William Wolseley Brinton who did this, with the support of the forward pack, by crashing over in the final few minutes.

It was a great team performance, led by the excellent Arthur Green, who was involved in almost everything, earning him the man of the match award.
