The 1st XV were away again this week, this time to Oxford for a tough fixture against an in-form Abingdon side. Although missing a few key men in the forwards with University trips and injury, they pulled off another fine performance to get their 5th win in a row.

The match started at a ferocious pace with the England U18 fly-half, playing for Abingdon, pinning Sherborne into their own territory. It was from a clearance kick that Sherborne scored their first try. Ollie N fielded the ball brilliantly before feeding Tom C-S on half way. He spotted a chink in the Abingdon chase and darted through the on-rushing tacklers to set up a two on one with the fullback. He fed Archie W who slid in under the posts.

Abingdon then hit back with a penalty in-front of the posts, before Toby W scored the 2nd try for Sherborne. Some good hands resulted in Toby having a one on one with his opposite number. He bulldozed his way over the line to dot down in the corner.

Sherborne then scored on the brink of half time with Freddie W crashing over from short range. Half time – 19-3.

The second half saw a mini revival from Abingdon, who upped their physicality to really test the Sherborne defence. Like previous weeks, it stood up to the test. Sherborne then scored two late trys through Hal L and Ollie N. Hal finished a fine move where Henry M demonstrated his handling skills out on the wing to put Hal through a gap. Ollie N then finished in sublime fashion to beat the last 3 defenders to score in the corner.

The 1st XV now face QEH on Wednesday in round two of the Schools cup, followed by a tough away fixture at Millfield.
