Man of the Match- William Wolseley Brinton

Following a scenic tour of Dorset’s villages the Marlborough bus arrived late, meaning a late kick off and a Sherborne team that was eager to play together on the Upper for the first time. Whether bus related or not, Sherborne stormed into an early lead, outplaying Marlborough for much of the first half. Strong carries from Freddie Cole, Sam Grey and Arthur Green in the opening minutes paved the way for William Senior to score a brace of tries, one on each side of the pitch. Will Parry, who caused the Marlborough defence trouble all afternoon, scored next and the half time score was 19-5.

The windy conditions meant that the second half was always going to be tougher, and so it proved. Marlborough used the wind to good effect and Max Dowling covered the back of the pitch well, looking as secure as ever under the high ball. An early score from Oli Carr-Smith crashing over from short range extended the lead, but then came the come-back as Marlborough scored twice to set up a thrilling finale.

It was Ollie Charles who finished a long range try to seal the match in the closing seconds and to notch a first victory on the Upper.

William Wolseley Brinton was man of the match, for his unrelenting defence, ball carrying and most notably his excellent line out work.
