Match Report
Sherborne School Boys-U15D vs  Radley College
On: Saturday, 14 Sep 2019
Venue: Away

On a day when a game of cricket seemed a more sensible idea, the JCDs travelled to Radley for their first outing of the season. The long coach journey followed by lunch were undoubtedly the reasons for Sherborne’s slow start and within five minutes, they were two tries down with Radley looking keen and sharp.

But to their credit, Sherborne did not buckle and started to get themselves into the game and after a fine solo run by George May from full back on eight minutes, they got their first score with the conversion from Gabriel Ratcliffe. From then on Sherborne improved steadily with more players putting in the tackles and making ground with ball in hand. Two more tries followed from Harry Summerhayes and from George again, and the boys found themselves 21 -12 up at half-time.

The second half was again very well contested with Sherborne scoring first through Joss Ryan, only to concede soon after. The teams then traded scores, with Max Lewis going over followed by George May getting his third in the last five minutes.

This was a fast flowing game with both teams running the ball at every opportunity in the blazing heat. Sherborne produced an excellent team performance with all players contributing in both attack and defence. At the start of the game, Sherborne’s tackling was patchy to say the least, but by the end everyone was prepared to put themselves ‘on the line’.
