Match Report
Sherborne School Colts A vs  Monmouth School for Boys
On: Saturday, 18 Jan 2020
Venue: Away

We could/should have been two down at half-time. Monmouth bravely played the ball out from the back and were exposing us down the flanks. This might have been down to us debuting a (hopefully more defensive-minded) 4-2-3-1. It was probably down to us not communicating or running enough. Things got significantly better after half-time as we backed ourselves to pass the ball and filling in the gaps when without the ball. Max Stephens and Chris Andrews (with a very clam finish) put us two up in the first ten minutes of the second half. Johnny Lye was taking control of the midfield and Will Jonas (Man of the Match) was disciplined in front of the back four. In attack, Alfie Davies was the calmest with the ball and we were creating chances. When our opponents got one back with 15 minutes to go it was time for calm heads. Some excellent defending and the ever-reliable George in goal kept our well-supported hosts at arm's length. Happily for us, Chris A got his second with 3 minutes to go following in on a Johnny Lye pile-driver their 'keeper had done well to parry onto the bar. Given that we had only practiced on the Harper barge yard last week, it was an encouraging afternoon.
