Match Report
Sherborne School 3rd XI vs  Monmouth School for Boys
On: Saturday, 18 Jan 2020
Venue: Away

v Monmouth Sat 18 Jan (A): Won 3-1

We all prefer home fixtures over away fixtures, particularly those that are over two hours away, but we play nonetheless, and usually end up enjoying doing so. It is called commitment. Sadly, a number of this week’s 3XI felt differently and, had it not been for the willingness of Ed Eve, we would have played with 10 men. Despite all this, the team played with enthusiasm and spirit. Despite some scrappy play initially, belying the skill I know they possess, we were quickly one goal up from Marius Cotorobai. The 3XI has a solid back line, but sometimes a little too physical, and we gave away too many free kicks in dangerous positions. Monmouth scored from one, despite the clearly off-side position of their striker, supposedly uninvolved with play as he stood in front of our keeper. Continually threatened, our defence withstood a barrage of long shots and increasingly more precise attacks, but did not concede any more. Our strength was in counterattack and our quick ball play. We should have scored more goals, but were content with two from the deserving Ed Eve. Ben Wadham proved again his skills on the ball and Chris Neville his speed; Jamie Jones and Tom Williams a no-nonsense physical strength; Marius Cotorobai involved himself across the pitch and deserved his brace; Archie Crabbe made a number of outstanding saves, gaining confidence from a game that he was fully involved with. Man of the match this week is awarded to Ed Eve, for so willingly stepping on the bus, for two goals and for his enthusiasm throughout the game.
